Fee: €30
Venue: Institute of Psychosocial Medicine, 2, Eden Park, Dun Laoghaire, Co.Dublin.
Miller Mair has been a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist for the past fifty years and as he describes himself ‘some kind of person for seventy three years’. He was a founder member and first chairperson of the Psychology and Psychotherapy Association. In 1988 he was chairperson of the Psychotherapy Section of The British Psychological Society.
He has been deeply influenced by George Kelly and ‘his long term quest for understanding’ in psychology has largely been inspired by this.
In order to come to some understanding of who and where we are, we have to tell stories. Miller Mair crosses and re-crosses boundaries between psychology, psychotherapy and philosophy, and ‘between science and art’. He stresses the importance of a poetic approach in psychology and psychotherapy and the need to explore and understand the nature of psychology through an imaginative freedom of language. He emphasizes that a poetic awareness and attentiveness is fundamental to any pursuit of understanding of ourselves.
Non members interested in Constructivist ideas will be most welcome to our open forum on Friday evening.
We would greatly appreciate if you could confirm your attendance by return.
