The overarching theme of the conference is to explore how we as professionals can understand and respond thoughtfully to issues around intimate boundaries and privacy in children’s lives today, in particular those who have experienced sexual abuse. The focus will be both practical and reflective. We want to examine how we can make things better for children caught up in the various professional systems designed to respond to child sexual abuse (CSA) concerns. Throughout the day the conference will invite participants to actively reflect and consider the following questions:
How do we treat children, their experiences and their information in the course of our professional interactions?
How do we understand our role and the role of others in the context of the wider professional system that comes into play when CSA is a concern?
How do we individually and collectively help make sense of this for children and their families?
How do we communicate all of this to children and their families?
Can we look from our various perspectives at what we really need to know about essentially private matters in the lives of children and their families?
