The next presentation will be exploring how shamanism has influenced modern healing techniques from Holotropic Breathwork TM to Transpersonal Psychotherapy and will be presented by our own Martin Duffy, Psychotherapist and Shamanic Practitioner.

Ancient Wisdom – Modern Medicine

Over tens of thousands of years our ancient ancestors all around the Earth discovered how to maximize human abilities of mind and spirit for healing and problem solving. These archaic techniques of ecstasy were created through the shamanic journey into the mystical realms of the imagination and beyond. The shaman journeys into non ordinary reality to contact spirit guides, power animals and allies to help heal people suffering from Soul Loss, Intrusions, Power Loss and act as a guide for the dying. These ancient methods for healing have influenced modern medicine for the body, mind and soul in ways that is often not acknowledged by western science. In this presentation we will explore how Shamanism plays a major part in Jungian and Transpersonal Psychology, Holotropic Breathwork, Imagery for Healing, Spiritual Emergence/Emergency, Eco Psychology and working with Death and Dying.

Martin Duffy Bio

Martin is the director of the OakTree Charitable Trust, a nonprofit organization that runs the Irish Centre for Shamanic Studies and The Transpersonal Institute at Dunderry Park.The Centre is dedicated to promoting and preserving shamanic traditions from around the world, particularly those of the pre-Celtic and Celtic era. Contemporary Transpersonal approaches are also taught at the centre. Martin has worked as a mental health care professional since 1977. He is an accredited transpersonal /Jungian psychotherapist. He has trained in various forms of consciousness raising methods including Holotropic Breathwork ™, Dreamwork, Trance dancing and Firewalking.
