One Day Workshop with Dr. Marie Adams

– The Myth of the Untroubled Therapist

IICP are delighted to welcome Dr. Marie Adams to present this one day workshop highlighting her research into the personal lives of forty therapists to prompt discussion on why we become therapists, and why we become the kinds of therapists we do.

When does our history help us in our work, and when does it hinder our relationship with clients? How do we manage the pressures of clinical work (and training!) while also attempting to juggle our lives outside the therapy room.

This workshop aims to explore The Myth of the Untroubled Therapist, offering participants the opportunity to examine the crossover between our professional and personal lives. Dr. Adams has a keen interest in this subject and has found that over half the therapists in her research admitted that they faced periods of depression since beginning work.

This poses the important question: how do we support ourselves and one another during challenging periods in our lives?

This Workshop Will Be Of Interest To:

  • Counsellors
  • Psychotherapists
  • Guidance Counsellors
  • Professionals and volunteers who work with clients in counselling or mental health services in general.
