Press Release

The Irish Council for Psychotherapy welcomes the decision of the Minister for Health Mr Simon Harris, TD to recognise the two distinct professions of Psychotherapist and Counsellor, each with their own register under one registration board. This is in line with ICP’s recommendations in the submission document to government. We are especially pleased i light of the efforts which ICP, representing 5 modalities, 11 organisations and over 1,500 registrants, has made over many years. Over the last two years, in particular, we have worked intensively to communicate with both Senior and Junior Government Ministers, CORU, the HSE and the Department of Health around the importance of protecting two separate titles.

The official government communication and all of the submissions, including ICP’s are available from http://health.gov.ie/blog/noticeboard/decision-of-minister-simon-harris-in-relation-to-the-regulation-of-counsellors-and-psychotherapists-under-the-health-and-social-care-professionals-act-2005/
