The Stormy Search for the Self
From Spiritual Emergence to Healing and Re-birth
Many people today are experiencing a stormy search for themselves, characterised by feelings of loneliness and isolation, fear and anxiety, depression and addictions and a search for purpose and meaning in their lives. Soul Loss is endemic on a personal and collective cultural level.
People involved in personal transformation are experiencing spiritual emergencies/crisis when the process of growth and change become chaotic and overwhelming. Individuals experiencing such episodes may feel that their sense of identity is breaking down, that their old values no longer hold true, and that the very ground beneath their personal realities is radically shifting. In many cases, new realms of spiritual experience may enter their lives suddenly and dramatically, resulting in fear and confusion. They may have fear and anxiety, or have difficulty coping with their daily lives, jobs and relationships.
Unfortunately, much of modern psychiatry has failed to distinguish these episodes of spiritual emergencies from mental illness.
However there is another perspective which views such crises as transformative breakthroughs rather than breakdowns that can hold tremendous potential for physical and emotional healing. When understood and treated in a supportive manner, spiritual emergencies can become gateways to higher levels of functioning and new ways of being.
At this seminar we will explore ways to identify and deal with spiritual emergence and emergencies.
