Irish Council for Psychotherapy Response to RTÉ Investigates: Ireland’s Unregulated Psychologists
The Board of the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP) recognise the need for the profession of Psychotherapy to be a regulated profession under the auspices of CORU.
The process of regulating Psychotherapy has begun with the establishment of the Counselling and Psychotherapists Registration Board in 2019. ICP are committed to support CORU in their work to aid the opening of a register for Psychotherapy as soon as possible.
In the interim the public need to be able to access high quality care and support. ICP operates a national register of psychotherapists at www.psychotherapycouncil.ie and is the only Irish body that can accredit therapists to the European gold standard approved by the European Association of Psychotherapy (EAP). We rely on international standards of excellence as we work toward a state regulation of the profession in Ireland.
