LEARNING OUTCOMES:

• A visceral understanding of the root causes that drive dual diagnosis,
• Learn how to apply music as a therapeutic tool to unlock repressed emotions and manage mental disorders,
• Develop preventative strategies to dual diagnosis and build resilience through natural highs,
• Break down the stigma surrounding dual diagnosis.

ELIGIBILITY: This workshop is recommended for psychologists and counsellors, psychotherapists, social workers, social care workers, teachers, guidance counsellors, youth workers and others working with substance misuse.

ABOUT: Roger Mehta has been a musician, radio presenter and DJ for over 30 years. His childhood was deeply affected by dual diagnosis; he came through the addiction process himself in 1998. Now a professional addiction support advocate, Roger has worked in the community since 2000 supporting individuals and families affected by substance misuse. This is a seminar on the science of wellbeing and happiness. Over many decades, science has been made a wonderful contribution in helping us understand negative emotion. the emphasis on deficits, disorders and disease has allowed for effective interventions to be developed in order to help and support people who are unwell or unhappy.
But why wait until we are unwell to learn about becoming healthier? Why wait until we are unhappy to explore happiness? In recent years psychologists have started to examine positive emotion. This research has focused on what makes people happier, what gives them more meaning and purpose in life and what measures they can take to lead to overall greater health.

This seminar will outline ten simple, practical and more importantly evidence-based strategies linked to a better quality of life. The hope is that it will uplift and inspire change in the lives of those who attend but even more importantly inspire participants to incorporate it into their homes, workplaces and communities.

The High Art Of Helping: Constellation Work With Horses

THE HIGH ART OF HELPING

AN EXPERIENTIAL WORKSHOP ASSISTED BY HORSE PRESENCE AND WISDOM: CONSTELLATION WORK WITH HORSES

Context and registration form

People often feel drawn to work with others and to help them. This pull can come from a deep love and loyalty that stems from within our own family system, our own herd. To work cleanly with others it is important to be able to differentiate ‘what belongs to whom’ and what it is that has drawn us into our chosen profession. What it is our hearts are longing for.

The ground-breaking work of Bert Hellinger, coming from his training in psychoanalysis to his systemic family therapy, allows us to see ourselves through a lens which brings to light our connections, loyalties and bonds, conscious and unconscious, across the generations. The methodology he developed is called ‘the constellation’ where other people represent family members, organizational issues or internal parts of ourselves. We use this lens and methodology together with the added help of horses. We include horse presence and wisdom as representatives in the family field. Clearing our own ‘field’ allows us to work with clarity, awareness and compassion.

When we understand that in order to “give” in a healthy way we must first be able to “receive”. Then we no longer project our entanglements and what is out of our awareness on to our co-workers and clients. So the workshop serves as a protection for the people we work with and also for ourselves.

When we can experience being separate and connected, then we ourselves, and those we work with, become freer to move and heal in a healthy way. Helping at this level is ‘a high art’.

These innovative workshops are offered to people who work with others. They are based on the Eagala Model …read more
