CPD Study Group For Psychotherapists

Would you like to be part of a small group that will provide an exciting and stimulating opportunity to deepen clinical knowledge whilst offering ongoing relational support for you as a practitioner?

Monique Danaher will be running monthly study groups for psychotherapists in Limerick City.

These groups will be experiential rather than theoretical learning only. They will provide a learning environment where the intention is to include our “lived bodies” experience in the conversation as we engage with the theory. This will help us to continue to develop our own capacity for embodied presence and foster mind body integration. In this way we parallel our work with our clients. Clinical material will be part of our discussions.

Please see below for a list of current groups. You can contact Monique on 087 6272304 or email moniquedanaher@nullgmail.com if you would have any questions in relation to the group or to request an application form.

Topic – Trauma and the body

Location – Limerick City

Date – Last Friday of every month beginning 31/03/17. (No meeting in August.)

Time – 9:15 to 11:15

Cost- 60 Euro
This study group is for those interested in deepening their understanding of how trauma impacts the body and the mind. As part of this group we will be experientially exploring somatic interventions on ourselves and inquiring into the impact of these exercises in our own bodies. We will also be discussing cases from our practice. This group is intended for accredited psychotherapists.

Monique Danaher MA is a relational and integrative psychotherapist practicing in Limerick City since 1997.She is accredited with IAHIP, ICP and she holds the European certificate of psychotherapy. She also works as a supervisor; trainer and group facilitator. She integrates developmental, relational and somatic perspectives/ approaches in her practice. Sexuality, the Body, and Body Image

Galway Psychotherapy and Consulting, Dublin

Wednesday to Friday, 28th to 30th June, 2017

Marine Hotel, Sutton Cross, Dublin

Facilitated by Mike O’Halloran and Evelyn P. Gilmore

This workshop provides an opportunity for psychotherapists, counsellors, psychologists, coaches, educators, health care professionals and allied professions to enhance their awareness of their own sexuality, to build greater awareness of their bodies, and to explore various aspects of their body image in a new way. During the workshop, as participants explore these issues and gain greater awareness themselves, it will provide them with new opportunities and greater insight when working with their clients on issues around sexuality, the body, and body image.

Sexuality, the Body, and Body Image can provide great pleasure, excitement, aliveness and choice in one’s life. However, often individuals struggle to cope with issues around their sexuality, with shame and guilt around their bodies, with feelings of powerlessness around life choices and decisions related to sexuality and the body, and with a distorted body image. This three-day workshop on Sexuality, the Body, and Body Image will explore both aspects of the above.

During the three days, participants will be provided with an opportunity to explore the following:

  • Exploring Sexuality and the Body
  • Personal, Familial, and Societal Influences on our Sexuality
  • Freedom and Choice Around Sexuality
  • Sexuality and Fear
  • Working with the Body
  • Tuning in and Trusting the Body in a New Way
  • Exploring the Individual’s Body Image
  • Self-Image, Body-Image and Dress
  • Aliveness, Excitement, Pleasure and the Body
  • Shame and Guilt around the Body and Sexuality
  • Guilt-free and pleasurable experiences

Style of the Workshop

The learning over the three days is highly experiential with a focus on participants’ process and experience. We will use Gestalt work, Biodynamic work, attention to Dreams, and Small and Large Group Process. The work will include Music, Movement, Dance, Drawing, and Guided Visualisation to …read more

Between Defeat and Destiny a workshop with Emma Philbin Bowman

Saturday March 4th 2017

Mindfulness Centre, Pembroke St, Dublin 2 10-5pm

‘be not the slave of your own past, dive deep, and swim far, so you shall come back with new self-respect, with new power, and with an advanced experience that shall explain and overlook the old. – Emerson

Whatever age we are, we want our futures to be beautiful. We hope to be happy in them: to be comfortable, to be touched, and to live with meaning and joy. Yet many of us also struggle to believe happiness is possible for us: we sense we are up against an undertow, where experiences of failure, self-sabotage or disappointment take their toll. When this is so, our futures rarely inspire us and can become a source of blankness or dread. This workshop aims to bring fresh light to these themes.

We will explore this territory through a rich blend of theory, poetry and experiential work. Drawing on the ideas of Christopher Bollas (on fate and destiny), Bromberg and Kristeva (on the allure of the past and how we can feel caught in looping cycles of repetition), and Thomas Hubl on how to hear ‘the fragrance of the future’.

Between Defeat and Destiny allows us to look with more compassion and insight at threads of fatalism or despair that may undermine our dynamism, and explore how we can alter and transcend these by learning to relate to life in more engaged, responsive and creative ways.
HOW THE WORKSHOPS ARE STRUCTURED:

We will work in a safe, supportive and confidential way, attempting to shed fresh light on how we envisage our futures. Through a blend of theoretical input, inquiry exercises, brief meditations, and group engagement, each person will be supported to make fresh contact with how these issues affect them, and re-orient their sense of meaning and dynamism.
